Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM officially released 211 contingents that will compete in Porsenigama 2018 which will take place on October 20 to December 1, 2018. The contingents are divided into 19 sports and 7 branches of art.

“Congratulations to the athletes who will compete in Porsenigama. The main purpose of this activity is to show the existence that we exist. Secondly, as a venue to show the work that was inspired by Sapta Pesona Diri,” said the Dean of FAS UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. UGM once again lost one of its best lecturers, Prof. drh. Soemitro Padmowijoto, M.Sc., Ph.D., Wednesday (10/24).  A last tribute was given to the Professor of Animal Husbandry Faculty at Balairung UGM, Thursday (10/25).

Chairperson of UGM Board of Professor, Prof. Drs. Koentjoro, MBSC., Ph.D., in his speech expressed deep condolences over the passing. The deceased was known for his theory on Mratani technology in the history of Indonesian agriculture, which is farming while breeding, gardening, and planting trees in yards. read more

Antelope Reborn Team of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, won second place in the national debate competition in the Faterna Scientific Week (Fastweek) event on October 17-21, 2018 at the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Andalas. The Antelope Reborn Team consists of Indra Wahyu Pratama (class of 2015), Laksmitha Aurelia Dewi (class of 2016), and Dandi Riswanto (class of 2015).

Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) students, Agnes Ferisqia Kintanaswari (class of 2016), won first place in a business plan competition entitled Business Talk 4 “Entrepreneur Foodstival Day” at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, 30 September 2018. Kintan collaborated with Julio Marcelino Bagaskara, a student of Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering UGM.

“Our business plan is an innovative muffin product from gedhang (banana), which is abbreviated as Mudheng. The product we created aims to create a food innovation from bananas, especially kepok bananas, which are native food potentials from the Kulon Progo region, Yogyakarta,” Kintan said. read more

During the period of Eid al-Adha, the intensity of slaughter of ewes in slaughterhouses in Indonesia, especially for small and medium industries such as lamb satay stalls, also increased. This is closely related to the reduced number of rams for being slaughtered to sacrifice.

“To overcome the reduction of female lambs of productive age that are slaughtered in Eid al-Adha, we conducted research on the relationship between age and weight of carcasses and noncarcas in female sheep. From the study, we recommend that female sheep can be slaughtered at the age of over 1 year with weights above 15 kg,” said Dr. Ir.
