RADAR JOGJA – Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM held various activities to celebrate its 50th anniversary. On November 9, FAS UGM will hold alumni gathering and MURI record-breaking by eating satay klatak on November 10, targeting 1969 participants, according to the year of birth of the faculty. Along with the International Seminar on Tropical Animal Production (ISTAP), the Faculty of Animal Science UGM also hosted a meeting between leaders of higher education in animal science study programs in the ASEAN region known as the SEANAS (South East Asia Network for Animal Science) forum.
Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UGM, Ali Agus, explained that this meeting was aimed at increasing collaboration between universities in higher education in animal husbandry. Followed by 70 people and 35 universities that have study programs from 12 farm countries. Namely Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Timor Leste, Kuwait, India, Taiwan, South Korea, China. The material is discussed about the curriculum of animal husbandry study programs in Asian and ASEAN countries, as well as sharing about the learning outcomes of animal husbandry programs.
“The purpose of SEANAS is to help the development of animal science education in the ASEAN region both in terms of curriculum, postgraduate studies, student and staff exchanges, research, publications, training, continuing education, and community education,” he explained.
Ali said, ISTAP and SEANAS is a form of contribution by the Faculty of Science UGM to collaboration or networking and strengthening World Class University for UGM on the global level. This networking format can be used for mutual collaboration and collaboration between various parties to face increasingly complex global challenges, especially in the field of food.
From the perspective of nationality and statehood, his party assessed that the holding of this international event helped strengthen cultural diplomacy. Because the participants will also be treated to a variety of Indonesian and Jogjakarta cultures, including visiting various heritage places.
“We are sure that the people of Jogja are already accustomed to dealing with foreign tourists, including ISTAP and SEANAS seminar participants. The good impression they get in this student city will be brought home and conveyed to their friends and family in their respective countries.
