Tropical Alfalfa and Opportunities for International Cooperation

Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Suwignyo, S.Pt., M.P., IPM., ASEAN Eng., a lecturer from the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM, attended the 62nd Philippine Society of Animal Science (PSAS) Scientific Meeting and Annual Convention. Held from October 21-24, 2025, at the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel and Events in the Subic Freeport Zone, Zambales, Philippines, the event was supported by a SEARCA Travel Grant.

A Student from the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM earns the Best Researcher Honors in Indofood Riset Nugraha 2024-2025 for Functional Egg Innovation

Kalisha Nirmala Chandra, a student at the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM, achieved a distinguished honor at the national level by being named Best Researcher in the 2024-2025 Indofood Riset Nugraha (IRN) program. Through her research titled “Designing Functional Eggs: Improving Egg Quality and Antioxidant Gene Expression in Laying Hens via Organic Selenium Feed Supplement Innovation”, Kalisha introduced an innovation for developing eggs into functional food: products that are not only highly nutritious but also offer additional health benefits for humans. Furthermore, the development of selenium-based feed was shown to enhance the productivity of laying hens. This research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, Faculty of Animal Science, UGM. read more

Master’s Student from the UGM Faculty of Animal Science Wins Award at Poultry Science Association Conference in Macau, China

A master’s student from the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM has once again achieved distinction on the international stage. Dimas Fakhruddin, S.Pt., received both a Student Travel Award and a Certificate of Excellence at the prestigious 2025 Pacific Rim Scientific Conference, organized by the Poultry Science Association and held from October 13 to 16, 2025, in Macau, China.

During the Student Competition session focused on “Metabolism and Nutrition: General Nutrition”, Dimas presented his research findings titled “Fermented Palm Kernel Meal Modulates Gut Barrier and Inflammatory Gene Expression via Short-Chain Fatty Acid Production in Broilers”. read more

Labschool Unesa 1 Surabaya High School Visits the UGM Faculty of Animal Science

A group of 126 students from Labschool Unesa 1 Surabaya High School visited the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM on Wednesday (8/10). This activity was part of a campus study tour conducted at several higher education institutions in Yogyakarta and Central Java.

Dewi Purwanti, the Principal of Labschool Unesa 1 Surabaya High School, stated that the visit to UGM aimed to gather the latest information regarding new student admissions and gain insight into university life.

“Last year, we were hosted by the Faculty of Engineering. This year, we wanted to broaden our understanding of other faculties at UGM, including the Faculty of Animal Science,” she explained. read more

SMK 3 Madiun Once Again Sends Students for Field Work Practice at UGM Faculty of Animal Science

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM has once again welcomed students from SMK Negeri 3 Madiun for a Field Work Practice (PKL) program. This initiative represents an ongoing collaboration between vocational secondary education and higher education aimed at enhancing students’ skills and their readiness for the workforce.

“We hope the students will gain a broader range of experiences. While they previously undertook internships in the industrial sector, this opportunity offers a more comprehensive experience within a university setting,” said Bayu Faliandra, S.T., a supervising teacher from SMK 3 Madiun, during the handover of the students at the Faculty of Animal Science on Monday (6/10). read more
