Empowerment of Islamic Boarding Schools through the Integration of Maggot-Based Waste Processing and General Waste for Poultry Pasture Development

An-Nur Islamic Boarding School in Bantul, one of the largest of its kind in Indonesia, is taking strides toward realizing the concept of a self-reliant and sustainable boarding school. In collaboration with a community service team from the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM, led by Prof. Nafiatul Umami from the Forage and Pasture Laboratory, Department of Animal Nutrition, the school has initiated a program integrating maggot waste processing and organic waste management to develop poultry pastures. read more

BUMDes Putro Manggolo: The Success Story of Kadilanggon Village in Building a Productive Economy Through Livestock Farming

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM, in collaboration with the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) Putro Manggolo in Kadilanggon Village (Wedi District, Klaten Regency), continues to demonstrate tangible contributions to rural community empowerment through the livestock sector. Supported by a multi-year community service grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (specifically the Directorate General of Research and Development) spanning 2023 to 2025, the program has successfully accelerated the transformation of BUMDes into a driver of the productive economy. Simultaneously, it has strengthened Kadilanggon Village’s status as a Food Self-Sufficiency Area, a designation established by the Central Java Provincial Government. read more

Boosting Livestock Feed Security in Rural Areas, BRIN Partners with UGM Faculty of Animal Science

The Research Center for Rural Social Welfare and Connectivity, part of the Governance, Economy, and Community Welfare Research Organization under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), has partnered with the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM to enhance the quality of research on livestock-based food security through farmer adaptation.

This collaboration was formalized through the signing of an agreement between Dr. Suci Wulandari, S.P., M.M., Head of BRIN’s Research Center for Rural Social Welfare and Connectivity, and the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng., on Thursday (18/9) in Jakarta. read more

UGM Faculty of Animal Science to Participate in ILDEX Indonesia 2025

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM is sending a team of lecturers and students to the International Livestock, Dairy, Meat Processing, and Aquaculture Exposition (ILDEX), held from September 17-19, 2025, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Jakarta.

ILDEX Indonesia 2025 is organized by VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. to develop and internationalize trade exhibitions and conferences. The event covers a wide spectrum, ranging from animal production and processing to technology, from agriculture to innovation, and from livestock to the medical and laboratory sectors. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM Initiates Collaboration with NTU

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM has initiated a collaboration with National Taiwan University (NTU). This initiative was marked by a visit from NTU representatives, followed by discussions between the two parties on Friday (12/9). Two delegates from NTU attended the meeting: Dr. Chihhao Fan and Dr. Yu-Hua Chen. Representing the Faculty were the Dean, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng.; the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Prof. Ir. Yuny Erwanto, S.Pt., MP., Ph.D., IPM.; the Head of the Office of International Affairs (KUI), Ir. Dimas Hand Vidya Paradhipta, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPP.; as well as several other early-career faculty members. read more
