Mountaineering Club of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, Caravan Mountaineering Club, held Seminar on Orang Utan Conservation entitled Where’s My Home: My home destroyed, your world destroyed, on Saturday (5/25) at the Auditorium of drh. R. Soepardjo FAS UGM.
“This event is held to find out the role of the community in conserving orangutans and to equalize perceptions of knowledge about orangutan conservation. In addition, this event is also expected to increase the spirit of caring for biodiversity conservation, especially orangutans,” said Ranny Rahayu as the head of the committee.
The event which was attended by 113 participants presented 3 speakers who had concern on orangutans, namely Dr. drh. R. Wisnu Nurcahyo a Veterinarian at Faculty of Veterinary UGM who concentrates on primates, Kusmardiastuti, S. Hut, MP from the Controller of Forest Ecosystem Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA), and Septian Adrianto from the Center of Orangutan Protection (COP).
“Problems related to orangutans include diseases experienced by orangutans, the rehabilitation process of orangutans, and the lives of orangutans which are threatened because of the construction of hydropower plants,” said Dr. drh. R. Wisnu Nurcahyo.
Meanwhile, Kusmardiastuti, S. Hut, MP presented a little about the introduction of orangutan behavior, data about the orangutan population, and explained the threat of the orangutan population.
Septian Adrianto closed the seminar by presenting crimes against orangutans and criminal law for perpetrators of crimes against orangutans, because of the loss of orangutan habitat, and the factors of illegal hunting, trade, and illegal preservation. (Nadia).
