The UGM Faculty of Animal Science, Polbangtan Malang, and Kambing Burja Collaborate to Develop Awassi Sheep

The Awassi is the most common sheep breed in the Middle East and the only indigenous breed in Jordan. Raised for meat, milk, and wool production, the Awassi has spread to over 30 countries worldwide. Burja Goat, an industry partner of Polbangtan Malang, imports Awassi sheep and is developing the breed following its introduction to Indonesia.

This development initiative is led by Dr. Dewi Ratih Ayu Daning, S.Pt., M.S., a researcher and the Head of the Livestock Agribusiness Study Program at Polbangtan Malang, under the research project titled “Development of Indigofera Feed for Awassi Sheep”. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM, led by Prof. Ir. Yustina Yuni Suryanindiyah, M.S., Ph.D., IPM, is conducting research focused on identifying the livestock characteristics, milk production and composition, and reproductive performance of Awassi sheep and their crosses. read more

Animal Science Freshmen Experience the World of Livestock Farming Firsthand Through Barn Tours

A total of 323 new students from the UGM Faculty of Animal Science participated in a Barn Tour (Jelajah Kandang) on Thursday (7/7). One of the objectives of this activity was to allow them to further explore the campus environment. The tour involved visiting several locations, including the cattle, dairy, goat, and poultry barns, as well as the forage fields.

“PIONIR Rancher 2025 is committed to creating opportunities for Young Ranchers to explore and familiarize themselves with the campus environment,” explained Mohammad Fahmi Setiaji, General Coordinator of PIONIR Rancher 2025. read more

Magelang Regent: Setting Priority Scales is Key to Student Career Success

The Regent of Magelang, Grengseng Pamuji, delivered an important message to new students of the UGM Faculty of Animal Science during the PIONIR Rancher 2025 event. On this occasion, Grengseng highlighted three key factors for career success: setting priorities, maintaining discipline, and networking.

“If I were asked to offer words of motivation, I would point to those three main things. Whether during our studies or after graduation, we must establish a clear set of priorities. Furthermore, we need discipline in every step we take, and, equally important, we must build a network that supports our career journey,” Grengseng told the new students on Wednesday (6/7). read more

UGM Faculty of Animal Science Partners with Parents of New Students to Ensure Educational Success

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM is partnering with the parents of new students to ensure the success of the educational process. This initiative was realized through a meeting for parents and guardians of new students in the Animal Science and Industry Study Program, held at the Drh. R. Soepardjo Auditorium on Monday (4/8).

Fapet UGM and Toros Farm Signed an MoU for Human Resources Development in the Livestock Product Production

The Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) and Toros Farm officially hold a strategic cooperation deal with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday, May 28th 2025. The two party MoU aimed to increase the human resources capacity in the livestock product production sector. This cooperation emphasized on the synergy between academicians and the industry, namely in the organizing of technical training and certification of professional halal butcher.

The Dean of Fapet UGM, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., ASEAN Eng., said that the faculty will give assistance in the form of professional and field supervisor in every training session. “We will prepare lecturers and experienced instructors to ensure that the participants receive adequate theories and practices,” said him.
