As part of the Faculty of Animal Science in  UGM’s commitment to supporting a healthy, active, and sustainable lifestyle, the Health Promoting Unit (HPU) has once again organized an event titled Fapet Bergerak! Sehat Bersama, or Fapet in Motion! Healthy Together, featuring a 56-kilometer Virtual Run & Walk that began on Friday (24/10). The event kicked off at the drh. R. Soepardjo Auditorium courtyard and will continue until December 14, 2025.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng., who also launched “The Faculty of Animal Science’s Healthy Lifestyle” initiative. Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Suwignyo, S.Pt., M.P., IPM., ASEAN Eng., a lecturer from the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM, attended the 62nd Philippine Society of Animal Science (PSAS) Scientific Meeting and Annual Convention. Held from October 21-24, 2025, at the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel and Events in the Subic Freeport Zone, Zambales, Philippines, the event was supported by a SEARCA Travel Grant.

The overarching theme of this annual seminar was “Transforming Animal Industry: The Impact of Science and Technology on Business and Sustainable Development”. read more

Kalisha Nirmala Chandra, a student at the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM, achieved a distinguished honor at the national level by being named Best Researcher in the 2024-2025 Indofood Riset Nugraha (IRN) program. Through her research titled “Designing Functional Eggs: Improving Egg Quality and Antioxidant Gene Expression in Laying Hens via Organic Selenium Feed Supplement Innovation”, Kalisha introduced an innovation for developing eggs into functional food: products that are not only highly nutritious but also offer additional health benefits for humans. Furthermore, the development of selenium-based feed was shown to enhance the productivity of laying hens. This research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, Faculty of Animal Science, UGM. read more

A master’s student from the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM has once again achieved distinction on the international stage. Dimas Fakhruddin, S.Pt., received both a Student Travel Award and a Certificate of Excellence at the prestigious 2025 Pacific Rim Scientific Conference, organized by the Poultry Science Association and held from October 13 to 16, 2025, in Macau, China.

During the Student Competition session focused on “Metabolism and Nutrition: General Nutrition”, Dimas presented his research findings titled “Fermented Palm Kernel Meal Modulates Gut Barrier and Inflammatory Gene Expression via Short-Chain Fatty Acid Production in Broilers”. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Tuesday (15/10) regarding the drafting of revisions to the Law on Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (UU PKH). The event was attended by various associations and professional organizations in the fields of animal husbandry and animal health, as well as representatives from academia and industry practitioners from various relevant institutions.

The event opened with remarks from the General Chairman of ISPI (Indonesian Society of Animal Science Professionals), Dr. Ir. H. Audy Joinaldy, S.Pt, M.Sc., M.M., IPU., M.I.P., ASEAN.Eng., who emphasized the importance of synergy among academia, the government, and industry players to produce regulations relevant to the challenges of modern animal husbandry. He noted that various issues regarding livestock management in the country persist, ultimately hindering the achievement of food self-sufficiency. read more
