The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with the Gadjah Mada Animal Science Alumni Association (KAPGAMA), participated in ILDEX Indonesia 2025, held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, Jakarta, from September 17 to 19, 2025. This collaboration served as a pivotal event for strengthening ties among academics, alumni, industry players, and stakeholders within the national livestock sector.

Led by the Faculty’s UGM ILDEX Team Chair, Ir. Rochijan, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPM., and the KAPGAMA ILDEX Team Chair, Ir. Achmad Dawami, the event featured a range of activities, including discussions, experience-sharing sessions, and cross-sector networking initiatives, as well as the proposal and reinforcement of the KAPGAMA Alumni Scholarship program. A group of 126 students from Labschool Unesa 1 Surabaya High School visited the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM on Wednesday (8/10). This activity was part of a campus study tour conducted at several higher education institutions in Yogyakarta and Central Java.

Dewi Purwanti, the Principal of Labschool Unesa 1 Surabaya High School, stated that the visit to UGM aimed to gather the latest information regarding new student admissions and gain insight into university life.

“Last year, we were hosted by the Faculty of Engineering. This year, we wanted to broaden our understanding of other faculties at UGM, including the Faculty of Animal Science,” she explained. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM has once again welcomed students from SMK Negeri 3 Madiun for a Field Work Practice (PKL) program. This initiative represents an ongoing collaboration between vocational secondary education and higher education aimed at enhancing students’ skills and their readiness for the workforce.

“We hope the students will gain a broader range of experiences. The livestock industry, while a primary source of animal protein, faces significant challenges regarding global warming due to high methane (CH₄) emissions. According to the Global Methane Initiative (2025), this sector accounts for 2,614.42 MMTCO₂e, or 33% of total global CH₄ emissions, surpassing the oil and gas industry. Over 20 years, the impact of CH₄ on global warming has been recorded as 80 times greater than that of CO₂. Beyond environmental pollution, these emissions also result in economic losses for livestock farmers; ruminants can produce 250-500 liters of CH₄ daily, representing a loss of 3-17% of dietary energy. read more
