Fapet UGM Lecturer Studied Crossbed Belgian Blue Cattle’s Behaviour, This is the Result!

Belgian Blue Cattle, of Belgian origin as the name suggests, is known to have a double muscle caused by the mutation on the Myostatin (MSTN) gen. Seeing the potential of this cattle as an excellent meat source, since 2014 the Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) have developed a cross-breeding of the Belgian Blue cattle with a local variety, which was then labelled as Sapi GAMA. This step was done in coordination with PT Widodo Makmur Perkasa and University of Liege. On the other hand, in 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture also introduced the Belgian Blue through embryo transfer and artificial insemination technology, which until now, has produced various cross-bred cattle. read more

Oil Derived from BSF Larvae Lowers Fat Content of Broiler Chickens

The research team from the Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) found that oil derived from the black soldier larvae oil (BSFLO) could reduce the fat content in broiler chickens fed with low protein feeds. These research findings have been published in the journal Poultry Science, a Q1 journal with 3.8 impact factor. 

Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, S.Pt., IPP., as the lead researcher, stated that black soldier fly (BSF) could become a solution in future poultry feedsmaking as an alternative additive in order to produce healthier chicken meats. read more

Meet Bidadari Kalila Artadhya, the First and Fastest Graduate of Fapet UGM IUP

Not only setting the record as the graduate with the shortest study period on Period III of the 2025/2026 Academic Year bachelor program graduation procession last May, Bidadari Kalila Artadhya was held as the first graduate of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) of the Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM). Dara, as she was known, was born in Jakarta and succeeded in graduating in three years, five months, and fourteen days.

“I’m very grateful for this achievement. This is not possible without the support of my family, lecturers, and friends,” said Bidadari on Monday, June 9th. read more

Dean of Fapet UGM Pushes for the Graduates to Supervise Government’s Programs in the Food Sector

The Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM), Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., pushes for the graduates of Fapet UGM to supervise government programs in the food sector. It was emphasized by the dean at the graduation ceremony of bachelors and applied bachelors in the ASLC Hall, Fapet UGM, Wednesday, May 28th 2025.

“In the next five years the government will be focused on the food sector. For that I hope that you all can take part in supervising programs regarding food security,” said Budi Guntoro. read more

Fapet UGM and Toros Farm Signed an MoU for Human Resources Development in the Livestock Product Production

The Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) and Toros Farm officially hold a strategic cooperation deal with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday, May 28th 2025. The two party MoU aimed to increase the human resources capacity in the livestock product production sector. This cooperation emphasized on the synergy between academicians and the industry, namely in the organizing of technical training and certification of professional halal butcher.

The Dean of Fapet UGM, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., ASEAN Eng., said that the faculty will give assistance in the form of professional and field supervisor in every training session. “We will prepare lecturers and experienced instructors to ensure that the participants receive adequate theories and practices,” said him.
