The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM is partnering with the parents of new students to ensure the success of the educational process. This initiative was realized through a meeting for parents and guardians of new students in the Animal Science and Industry Study Program, held at the Drh. R. Soepardjo Auditorium on Monday (4/8).

UGM Faculty of Animal Science Lecturer Participates in IEIF ASEAN Research Collaboration Project in Australia

Dr. Aeni Nurlatifah, a lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada, was selected as one of 39 Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from the ASEAN region to participate in the International Education Innovation Fund (IEIF) ASEAN Research Collaboration Project, running from June 1 to August 29, 2025. Faculty of Animal Science Researchers Utilize Cinnamon and Citrus Leaf Essential Oils to Enhance the Quality of Beef Se’i

The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada, specifically the Department of Animal Product Technology, has once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering innovation in the livestock sector. In a recent study published in the Journal of Advanced Veterinary and Animal Research, Dr. Ir. Endy Triyannanto, S.Pt., M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., and his research team revealed the significant potential of cinnamon and citrus leaf essential oils to enhance the quality and shelf life of processed meat products, particularly se’i (smoked beef). This research represents a significant effort to address the relatively short shelf life of se’i by leveraging the natural antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of these essential oils. read more

Fapet UGM Researchers Integrates Bio-slurry for the Cultivation of Microalgae as a Solution for Environmentally Friendly Livestock Waste Management

Waste management and usage is a responsibility of the livestock farming industry to conduct a business establishment that is not only profit-oriented, but also sided with the community and environment. Coming from that, a number of UGM researchers conducted research showing that bio-slurry as the liquid waste from biogas production could be used optimally as a medium for Euglena sp. IDN 22 microalgae that has a potential to be raw material for various industries.

The team that was led by a professor at the Faculty of Animal Science of UGM (Fapet UGM), Prof. Ir. Ambar Pertiwiningrum, M.Si., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng., and is consisted of Prof. Ir. Nanung Agus Fitriyanto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., Dhomas Indiwara Prana Jhouhanggir (doctoral student at Fapet UGM), and Dr. Eko Agus Suyono, S.Si., M.App.Sc. (lecturer and researcher, Faculty of Biology UGM). Fapet UGM Lecturer Studied Crossbed Belgian Blue Cattle’s Behaviour, This is the Result!

Belgian Blue Cattle, of Belgian origin as the name suggests, is known to have a double muscle caused by the mutation on the Myostatin (MSTN) gen. Seeing the potential of this cattle as an excellent meat source, since 2014 the Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) have developed a cross-breeding of the Belgian Blue cattle with a local variety, which was then labelled as Sapi GAMA. This step was done in coordination with PT Widodo Makmur Perkasa and University of Liege. On the other hand, in 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture also introduced the Belgian Blue through embryo transfer and artificial insemination technology, which until now, has produced various cross-bred cattle. read more
